Shinsuke Sato's Oblivion Island: Haruka and the Magic Mirror received the Nippon Cinema Award at the 10th Nippon Connection Japanese Film Festival, held in Frankfurt am Main, Germany from April 14 to 18, 2010. The award winner is determined by the vote of the audience, and Oblivion Island won among 17 movies. The screening at Nippon Connection 2010 was the movie's German premiere.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Nippon Connection is the largest festival for Japanese cinema in the world showcasing exciting and creative cinema from Japan, from of avant-garde films, to anime and blockbusters as well as documentaries.
