Giovanni's Island international premiere at the NYICFF 2014
February 21, 2014
Mizuho Nishikubo's new animated feature film, Giovanni's Island is part of the official feature film selection at the 17th New York International Children's Film Festival, to be held in New York, USA from March 7 to 30, 2014. The screening at NYICFF 2014 marks the movie's international premiere.
Established in 1997, NYICFF is an Oscar qualifying event and North America's largest film festival for children and teens. The most recent edition attracted a sold-out-in-advance audience of 30,000 and generated over 200 million media impressions. The NYICFF 2014 jury includes Uma Thurman, Gus van Sant, James Schamus, Susan Sarandon, Geena Davis, Richard Pena, Jeffrey Wright, Matthew Modine and Henry Selick.
"An elegance and beauty permeates the hand-drawn animation and symphonic score of the film, creating a timeless drama where moments of emotional impact are tempered by animated flights of whimsy and fantasy, as the brothers prove much larger in spirit and strength than their rosy-cheeked, small frames would suggest. There is a true to life sense of the loss of home and family, as the film shows how kids readily adapt to even the most difficult circumstances, the way they are asked to take on larger responsibilities, and how they are blameless for the difficult situations that adults sometimes create for them. ."
